On Monday, June 15 and Tuesday, June 16, ironworkers from High Structural Erectors are giving an outdoor heat straightening demonstration at the 2026 International Bridge Conference.

The demonstration recreates the kind of damage a vehicle strike leaves on a steel girder, including local distortion of the flange and web. The team then corrects it with a heating torch and a jack, showing how controlled heat relieves residual stresses and restores the member’s geometry in line with established repair practice.
The session is meant to be practical: a close look at field repair procedures, the checks that protect structural integrity, and how impact damaged steel bridge members are evaluated and repaired.
