Bridge Steel Rehabilitation & Repair Services

HSE supports bridge steel rehabilitation and repair projects involving damaged steel members, retrofit work, selective member replacement, constrained access, active traffic coordination and schedule-sensitive field execution. Our work is focused on steel repair and rehabilitation, helping project teams extend the service life of bridge structures while maintaining safe and controlled field operations.

Bridge Steel Rehabilitation & Repair Services

Rehabilitation is its own discipline. HSE jacks superstructures, replaces bearings, builds the towers and falsework the lift sits on, welds and bolts damaged members, installs strongbacks and heat straightens impact damage, engineered in house and executed by the crew that wrote the procedure.

  • Jacking, jacking towers and falsework
  • Bearing, pedestal and seat replacement
  • Welded and bolted member repair, strongback installation
  • Heat straightening and emergency impact repair

Jacking, Towers & Falsework

Lifting a superstructure is a temporary-works problem before it is a repair. HSE designs and erects the jacking towers, falsework and shoring, sets the jacks and monitors the lift, loads, reactions and deflections checked against the plan by the same licensed engineers who stamped it.

  • Superstructure and span jacking under traffic
  • Jacking towers, falsework and temporary shoring
  • Jacking plans and reactions engineered in house

Bearing Replacement

Failed and frozen bearings, deteriorated pedestals and damaged seats replaced in staged lifts, the structure carried on jacks while the old bearing comes out, the seat is rebuilt and the new bearing is set to line and grade.

  • Elastomeric, pot and rocker bearing replacement
  • Pedestal and bearing seat rebuild
  • Staged lifts under live or detoured traffic

Welded & Bolted Repair and Strongbacks

Cracked webs and flanges, section loss at bearings and joints, damaged cross frames and diaphragms, repaired by field welding, bolted splice and cover plates, and strongback installation where a member has to be carried while it is rebuilt or replaced.

  • Field welding and bolted splice and cover plates
  • Strongback installation and temporary member support
  • Cross frame, diaphragm and connection repair
  • Selective member replacement in place

Heat Straightening & Impact Damage

Where the engineer of record approves it, heat straightening restores a struck girder in place under controlled temperature and restraint, no new steel to fabricate and ship, and often a single closure instead of a season.

  • Impact-damaged girders straightened in place
  • Engineered heating patterns, restraint and documentation
  • Repair by member replacement where straightening is not approved

Staged Work Under Live Traffic

Most rehabilitation happens over or beside traffic that is not stopping. Crane positions, closure windows, sequencing and the order of the picks are worked out with the owner and the prime before the crew mobilizes.

  • MOT-constrained and staged closures
  • Night and weekend closure execution
  • Constrained-access and multi-crane picks

What Comes With the Crew

The certifications a DOT, authority or bridge prime asks for at prequalification, held in house.

AISC Certified Erector

With Bridge Endorsement, the combination most state DOTs and bridge primes require.

Licensed Professional Engineers

Jacking plans, falsework, strongbacks and repair procedures engineered in house. PE licensure in ten states.

Crane Coordination

Crane selection, positioning and lift execution coordinated by HSE on every pick.

Part of the High Family

Replacement steel from High Steel Structures and heavy haul from High Transit under one family.
