Beyond the lift

Support From Preconstruction Through Turnover

HSE brings more than crews and cranes to a project. We work with owners, designers, general contractors and fabricators from early design through final turnover, so the erection plan is built into the project from the start rather than added at the end.

Design build

Design Build Support

HSE joins design build and P3 teams early, while the structure is still being designed. We work alongside the designer of record and the fabricator so the erection approach shapes the design, not the other way around.

  • Erection input on piece sizes, splice locations and shipping lengths
  • Crane access, staging and sequence reviewed during design
  • Budget erection pricing as the design develops
  • One erection partner from concept through final turnover

Value engineering

Value Engineering

We review plans, specifications and schedules for ways to erect the work more safely, more quickly and at lower cost, then present each idea with its impact so the owner and engineer of record can decide.

  • Alternate erection sequences and staging plans
  • Temporary support and shoring alternatives
  • Crane selection and placement that reduce mobilizations
  • Night and staged work plans that shorten closures
  • Every proposal documented with its cost and schedule impact

In house

Engineering, Inspection & Detailing

Engineering, inspection and detailing at HSE exist to support the work we erect and repair. Our in-house team inspects and assesses damaged members, then prepares the repair and erection procedures, lift plans, crane placement and temporary works for each HSE project, along with the drawings and detailing those plans depend on.

These capabilities are dedicated to HSE’s own projects rather than offered as standalone services. The benefit to our customers is a single team accountable for both the plan and the lift.

  • Licensed Professional Engineers on staff
  • Field inspection and damage assessment of struck or damaged steel
  • PCI Certified Field Auditors on staff
  • Erection procedures and lift plans engineered in house
  • Repair procedures for heat straightening and damaged members
  • One team responsible from plan to final lift

Technical supervision

Specialty Trade Supervision

Some repairs call for specialized expertise more than a full specialty crew. For heat straightening and other highly technical repair work, HSE can provide experienced supervision that directs the process in the field while the prime contractor’s own crews perform the work.

This approach fits the way many maintenance, emergency and forensic repair contracts are set up, on a time and materials or man hour basis. The contractor keeps its workforce on the job, the owner gets a proven procedure carried out under expert direction, and the repair is documented to the engineer of record’s requirements. We are glad to discuss staffing arrangements that suit your contract and your workforce.

  • Heat straightening directed in the field by experienced HSE supervisors
  • Your crews perform the work under our technical direction
  • Suited to time and materials and man hour based contracts
  • Heat and temperature records and repair documentation for the engineer of record
  • Flexible arrangements built around your workforce

The High family

Turn-Key Through the High Companies

As part of the High companies, HSE works hand in hand with its affiliates: structural steel fabricated by High Steel Structures, precast concrete produced by High Concrete Group, and heavy hauling by High Transit. Your project benefits from continuity of management from fabrication through delivery and erection.
